The Sanctuary offers a safe haven for victims of family violence and sexual assault, providing shelter, community outreach, legal advocacy and education and prevention. They offer a variety of programs related to helping people who have been affected by family violence or sexual assault. SHELTERMany people who use their services are recent victims of violent crime or may be in imminent danger, therefore the shelter is at an undisclosed location. They are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and maintain a hotline to respond to crisis calls and inquiries. The shelter has 28 beds for women and their children who have fled situations of domestic violence or sexual assault. In addition to safe haven, services include: case management individual counseling for women and children groups focused on domestic violence, legal issues, parenting, relaxation, cooking and more legal advocacy safety planningTRANSITIONAL HOUSINGTransitional housing provides a step between shelter and fully independent living. Transitional housing subsidies and ongoing staff support are typically offered to former shelter residents for three to six months. YOUTH OUTREACHThese services are provided through the YES (Youth Empowerment Services) Program. This program provides outreach and intervention to at-risk youth as well as prevention groups focused on issues of self esteem, dealing with feelings of anger and aggression without resorting to violence, and making healthy choices. This is primarily a school-based program, though additional sites are added during the summer months.
