The Jane Pfaff House is a fully furnished and equipped home for up to six women, and a live-in House Manager. The house manager has separate quarters so that the women can be on their own with supervision or guidance as needed. The Jane Pfaff House is a safe, secure, peaceful, temporary home where the women can learn to be a self sufficient productive citizens. The Jane Pfaff House, a very large home that was ENTIRELY donated to SVTH, was named after the wife of the benefactor. This house was designed perfectly to meet the needs of the transition house concept. The home is located in Black Mountain, North Carolina, where the community support has been tremendous. Local businesses, churches, and individuals joined in securing the house, then adopting rooms and furnishing them with beautiful furniture, linens, and equipment. An experienced house/program manager was hired to guide the women in establishing transitional goals, and to supervise the women in their responsibilities in the house, their attendance at required training activities and meetings.
Mission Statement: Reduce the recidivism rate of the most vulnerable women released from the Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women. By providing a source of post release housing appropriate to foster the achievement of the transition goals developed by the inmate as part of the Reentry Life Plan class prior to release. SVTHC is an organization of volunteers who assist inmates of the Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women (SCCW) develop transitional goals and further assist in meeting those goals after the inmate is released. We work with any inmate planning to be released to WNC who sincerely wants to make a change in herself and the life style which resulted in her incarceration. * By working with or providing mentors before and after release from prison. * By finding or by providing emergency or transitional housing. * By assistance in finding, or by supplying structured programs. * By supplying or finding, and maintaining safe, affordable long term housing. * By promoting cooperation among community organizations and providers of support services. * By educating the public regarding the needs and benefits of supporting these women in transition.
