Sitka Place provides permanent supportive housing for homeless individuals with serious mental illness. The goal is to provide housing support and assistance with recovery. A total of 55 units will be available and a common space will be available for residents to enjoy. Sitka Place (formerly Safe Harbor Inn) was founded in 1999 by Anchor Arms to provide safe, secure, dignified housing for very low-income homeless families and individuals- especially those experiencing physical and mental disabilities. In 2013, Anchor Arms formally sought out another organization to take over operating Sitka Place in order to preserve this essential community resource and to provide 24 hour coverage seven days a week. Recognizing the overwhelming need in Anchorage for low-income housing, RurAL CAP voluntarily stepped in to bring increased administrative capacity to Sitka Place and move towards long term financial stability.Sitka Place provides low cost, safe, and affordable housing to the most vulnerable populations in Anchorage. Sitka Place serves as a hub for multiple services, helping families and individuals strengthen their ability to live independently. Case management services will be provided helping families move towards self-sufficiency. Both the Merrill Field and Muldoon locations will focus on specific populations and incorporate evidence-based practice to ensure each person receives proper services.
Mission Statement: To empower low-income Alaskans through advocacy, education, affordable housing and direct services that respect our unique values and cultures
