Anne Frank House (AFH) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides permanent housing to homeless men and women with chronic mental illnesses within Washington, DC. AFH owns condominiums and rents apartments which they then lease at less than cost to their residents. AFH activities are financed primarily by individual donations and grants.AFH utilizes local social service agencies for client case management and works closely with the Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship Place (FP) for social, medical and psychiatric services. AFH provides their residents with fully furnished apartments, all currently located in NW Washington, DC. They also provide support services such as medical and psychiatric care through Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship Place. All apartments are located on public transportation and are very close to shopping, both of which enable their residents to become more independent. Anne Frank House currently houses eleven residents in five owned studio condominiums and six rental studio apartments.
Mission Statement: Our singular mission is to combat homelessness by providing permanent housing and social services support that enables our clients to become and to remain mentally stable and self-reliant while living in the community. We strive to increase the number of clients we serve by expanding our housing inventory and increasing our resources within our capacity as an all volunteer-run organization. With our focus on helping people in dire circumstances, Anne Frank House is a true expression of the Jewish value of "tikkun olam"--improving the lives of others and, in turn, improving the world.
